Aircraft Captain

Primary Function:

  • To pilot company aircraft in safe and efficient flight operations, as dictated by company policy and procedure

Major Responsibilities:

  • Acts as pilot in command (PIC) on flights for which the pilot has been so scheduled
  • Acts as second in command (SIC) on flights for which the pilot has been so scheduled
  • Provides excellent customer service to passengers
  • Complies with schedules and other directives governing the aircraft’s operation
  • Ensures that pre- and post-flight inspections are performed
  • Studies weather conditions at destination, en route, alternate airports and departure points
  • Prepares and files flight plans as necessary
  • Ensures that the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight with all provisions on board for the safety and comfort of the passengers
  • Reviews and/or calculates the aircraft weight and balance, fuel on board and performance charts, as necessary
  • Uses checklists as appropriate
  • On the ground, makes any decisions necessary to start, delay, or cancel a flight
  • In the air, makes any decisions necessary to deviate the flight from the planned route or destination when operating conditions dictate
  • Communicates all mechanical irregularities with Sanderson Farms aircraft maintenance personnel and coordinates with them on maintenance away from home base
  • Fully participates in the department Safety Management System, using all available tools, as applicable
  • Ensure that all charts, manuals and documents required on company-issued iPad are current and updated in a timely manner

Key Working Relationships:

  • Reports to an aviation manager, who provides general supervision and policy guidance concerning the nature and scope of work, as well as for specific assignments
  • Develops and maintains working relationships with passengers on company aircraft
  • Assists key managers in building good relationships with customers and other associates of Sanderson Farms
  • Treats all passengers on company aircraft in a professional, courteous manner

Position Requirements:

  • Academic: Airline Transport Pilot Certificate
  • Appropriate Type Ratings
  • 1st or 2nd Class Medical Certificate
  • Experience: 3,000 Hours Total Flight Time
  • 1,000 Hours Multi-Engine Flight Time
  • 500 Hours Turbine-Engine Flight Time
  • Personal: Identifies with the values, philosophy, and mission of Sanderson Farms
  • Skilled in Interpersonal Relationships
